Covercraft

The generic cleaning instructions noted below are intended for use with all Covercraft covers but you should refer to the instruction sheet enclosed with the car cover for any fabric specific care instructions.

Car cover fabric performance can be severely affected by dirt that builds up on and within the material. It can cause the windshield and paint to become dirty and “fogged” as well as create “wicking” where it actually helps pull water through the fabric, nullifying any water resistant properties the fabric may have had. Cleaning your cover will help to keep your vehicle clean and to increase the service life of the cover.

NEVER...Clean a car cover in a washer with a center agitator (except WeatherShield fabric covers).
NEVER...Use fabric softener.
NEVER...Dry a non-woven or specialty type cover in a dryer.

(WeatherShield fabric & Form-Fit covers can be dried in a dryer with regular heat; Polycotton, Cotton and Flannel can be dried on low heat.)

1 - Using a large commercial washer without agitator, wash the cover using 1/4 cup of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner (some WeatherShield covers are compact enough to be washed in a normal size washer). Put the cover in the washer and pour the cleaner in the tub after it’s filled with warm water or pour it directly in the machine (some wall mounted commercial units), then put in the cover and start the machine .
2 - Rinse the cover twice (2X) to remove all the cleaner.
3 - Air dry (unless it’s one of the covers noted above that can be dried in a dryer with regular or low heat).

A cover may also be cleaned by turning it inside-out on the vehicle.
1 - Mix one ounce Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner per quart of warm water.
2 - Spray or sponge onto cover.
3 - Rinse with plain water (until no suds) and allow to air dry.

Simple Green is available in most world markets. If you have any questions, contact them at 1-800-228-0709 (USA) or visit their web-site http://www.simplegreen.com/

  • Can a cover help prevent my vehicle from being stolen?
Yes it certainly can.  A thief wants to get into your vehicle, start it, and drive off as quickly as possible.  As soon as a thief starts to make an entry, they are exposed.  A car cover takes a few minutes to remove, so the thief's exposure time is increased.  With so many cars uncovered, why would a thief want to increase the risk of being caught?  A cover also helps protect the contents of a vehicle.  When radios and other items are out of sight they are less likely to tempt a thief.
  • How can I prevent my car cover from being stolen?
The lock and cable accessory kit will certainly help.  You should also put your name on the front of the cover.  The name works better than the license number.  The instruction sheet gives details on the correct way to mark the cover.
  • Is there a correct way to install a cover?
In general, always cover the front and rear bumpers as the last step.  If the cover has mirror pockets, place the pockets over the mirrors first.  If you have an old car you should cover the roof and windows first, and then the front and rear of the car.  On some coupes and roadsters made prior to 1932, you might be unable to install the cover at all if you start with the front or the rear bumper.
  • What is the best way to fold a cover when taking it off the vehicle?
The easiest way I've found is the way we picture it in our instruction sheets.  Simply fold each side up onto the roof and refold it as necessary so the material ends up about 2 feet wide.  Then, starting at the front of the vehicle, fold the cover towards the back in increments of about 3 feet.  This way you don't drag the cover over the vehicles surface, and it's easy to reverse the process for installation.
  • Can I put a wet cover on a vehicle?
If your vehicle is clean, it's actually the best way to dry the cover.  If it's a Covercraft cover, as the temperature warms up, all the moisture will evaporate, since all of our fabrics are breathable.
  • Any suggestions on how to keep my vehicle cooler when I use a car cover?
Other than parking in the shade, because most of our better fabrics will protect against bird droppings and tree sap, the best thing to do is to lower your side windows about two inches.  Ambient temperature builds inside enclosed spaces, and if you open the windows slightly you'll allow air to circulate, just like it circulates under the cover.  Some of our fabrics offer more heat insulation than others, simply because they are multi-layered and are more effective at keeping heat away from the vehicle surface, but any cover will help reduce the vehicle temperature on a hot day.
  • What are UVR inhibitors?
Most fabrics are degraded by Ultra Violet Rays (UVR) from the sun.  To slow down the degradation process, chemicals are added during the production of the fabric.  You won't be able to see them, smell them or feel them.  The chemicals are expensive so your best bet is to buy a cover from a reputable manufacturer who believes in quality.  To reduce cost, one of the first things a mill will usually cut is the percentage of UVR inhibitors being used.
  • How often should I wash my cover?
There is no magic number since it depends on where you live and how you use the cover.  Don't be afraid to wash a car cover!  Dirt particles can compromise the effectiveness of the water resistance of the fabric.  Be sure to follow the washing instructions for the cover you own.
  • Will treating my car cover with Scotchguard make it more water resistant?
In almost every instance, a good car cover fabric has been treated with some sort of DWR (durable water repellency) treatment during it's manufacturing process.  The effectiveness of such a treatment will also depend on the construction of the fabric.  If you can hold the fabric up to light and see small open areas between the yarns, no treatment will increase the fabrics water resistance.  Adding additional treatments will not help and aren't worth the cost.
  • My wife is about 5 feet tall and wants a cover for her car.  What fabrics would you suggest?
First off, lighter is not necessarily better.  A thin nylon cover or plasticized paper type cover can be very difficult to use in any kind of breeze.  A heavy cover is also difficult for a person of small stature to handle.  Fabrics that weigh between 4 and 7 ounces per square yard are considered ideal, and that is our target weight for most Covercraft covers.  The other property that is important to consider is bulk.  Bulky covers are hard to handle and hard to store.

When so much money is put into your car why would you leave it vulnerable to extreme weather?  A Car Cover will protect your car from damaging affects of weather for those cars stored outdoors.

Whether your climate is subject to blistering desert heat, blizzard-like freezing conditions or monsoon rains you take several precautions when attempting to drive during extreme weather.  Tires, windshield wipers, and anti-freeze are all checked during the wintertime, and in the summer month’s lines of cars wait for a cleaning, but many times the affects of weather to the body and undercarriage of the car are dramatically overlooked.

Many times cars are kept unclean during the winter months causing damaging and costly affects.  Corrosion can occur from heavy exposure to salt during the snow season.  Heavy rain can carry damaging chemicals, dirt, and grim.  Mud and salt caked and dried on the undercarriage of your car acts as a catalyst for rust.  Constant exposure to UV rays can cause premature oxidation and fading of the exterior decreasing the investment value and incurring costly repairs.

All of these damaging effects can be resolved be simply applying a car cover.  At CarCoverUSA.com we can supply you with a multitude of car cover and car supplies to protect your pride and joy.  We have listed information about the various Covercraft car covers that we supply to you as well as information about the design and the importance of different fabrics.

Car Cover Varieties
Ready-Fit Covers
, Specialty Covers, Custom Fit Covers

Ready-Fit covers or "semi-custom" are designed to provide a good fit using incremental sizing and a hatchback silhouette.  Our Ready-Fit covers uses Block-It Series non-woven protection fabrics made by Kimberly-Clark in the U.S.A and is offered in four different upgrading fabrics.   The Budget cover uses single layer Block-It 100 Series fabric to provide good, basic protection at an affordable price.  For extended outdoor use our popular Technalon cover, made with Evolution fabric will provide all-weather protection.  The 200 and 350F Series fabric covers offer different levels of protection to fit your needs and budget.

Budge Car Covers offers a variety of specialty covers that are designed for isolate specific regions of your car for a high level of protection.  Cab Coolers, Cab Area Covers, Interior Covers, and Hardtop Covers.

o     Cab Coolers - Custom Cab Coolers allow pickup and SUV owners to protect the interior of the vehicle, even if you don't have room to carry around a full-size cover.  Cab Coolers protect against the heat and UV rays of summer, as well as frost and snow during the winter.  They are easy to install and held in place with hook & loop straps, usually at the door handles and under the mirrors.  Sizes are available for regular and extended cab pickups.

o      Custom Cab Area Covers - Protect the entire cab area from heat, sun and snow.  Custom-patterned for a perfect fit, cab area covers fit between the cab and pickup bed.  Since it's not a full size cover, it's easy to store, but still protects the interior from damaging UV rays.

o       Interior Covers - Easy-to-use protection for convertibles when the top is down.  Interior covers protect the windshield and interior from UV rays, airborne pollutants and droppings from trees and birds.  Installation is easy, with hook & loop straps for door handles and/or mirrors and most include anti-theft tabs that are secured inside the trunk lid.  These covers are great for summer use and are compact for easy storage.  A full cover is always the best answer, but for protection on quick trips interior covers do the job.

o       Hardtop Covers - When the weather is great, and the hardtop is stored in the garage for the summer, here's a way to protect both the inside and outside while it's not in use.  The cover uses hook & loop fasteners to attach the outer and inner portions of the cover together and it can be used with most hoists that are used to remove hardtops.

·      Custom Fit Covers Provide a “Perfect Fit”

Custom Fit Covers are provided to car enthusiasts who seek a car cover that offers the perfect fit for their cars, kit cars, motor homes and more.  CarCoverUSA has over 50,000 pattern listings available in our current database, and new patterns are being added every week.  We have the ability to custom make the pattern to fit any vehicle and can accommodate hood scoops, roll bars, grille guards, winches, and more.

Outdoor fabric covers primary function is to provide protection from extreme weather, UV rays, bird droppings, dirt and grim, etc for vehicles that are stored outdoors. We offer a multitude of different fabrics, which provide different degrees of protection.  Below we have provided for you a list of our different fabrics and a short description of each of their different functions.

COVER FABRICS - Which One is Right for You?

We offer a wide selection of fabrics, to allow you to select the one that will meet your vehicle's protection needs and budget.  Different fabrics offer different levels of protection performance, and some focus on protecting from a specific element, like intense sun exposure or dust.  Our range of fabrics is based on experience in manufacturing covers since 1965.  Use the chart below to help identify which fabric is best suited for the protection needs you require.  We've tried to be as realistic as possible in showing how the fabrics perform in certain conditions, but keep in mind that our opinion is based on performance comparisons with other fabrics currently used for vehicle covers.

This is a prime example of what NOT to do to  your vehicle!  All Covercraft fabrics are "breathable" to allow good air circulation under the cover.  That's important because it assures that any moisture or condensation under the cover can easily evaporate, and it also reduces heat build-up on hot days.  Remember, rain water (not acid rain) won't hurt a vehicle's finish; it's UV rays and pollutants in the air that cause the most damage to the exterior and interior finish.

Using the chart, you'll find good, basic protection is provided by the Multibond / Block-it 200 Series fabric, while NOAH and WeatherShield are more expensive and provide excellent all-weather protection.  For paint protection from dust and dirt during indoor storage, consider tan flannel or Dustop.  If a cover is being used in an extreme sun environment, Sunbrella or our new WeatherShield HD may be the best cover to use.  It all depends on the protection level you want to achieve, and the amount of money you want to budget, to protect your investment.  In the long run, the cost of the cover is minimal compared to the replacement cost of what you are protecting.  Remember, a cover not only protects BOTH the inside and outside of a vehicle, it also acts as a theft-deterrent by keeping the vehicle out of view to potential thieves.

Custom Patterned Outdoor Covers

Why a custom fit cover?  Universal and semi-custom covers had been around quite a while before Covercraft identified the market potential, and began catering to enthusiasts who wanted a more "perfect fit" for the cover being used to protect their pride and joy.  Back in the 60's (in the last millennium), the most popular covers we made were for British and European sports cars and they were called "mittens".  Today, custom covers are made for everything from kit cars to motorhomes, and we process orders for custom, made-to-dimension patterns every day.

While outdoor fabric covers can be used indoors as well, their primary function is to provide protection from the elements when the vehicle is parked outdoors - UV, bird droppings, tree sap, etc.  Different fabrics provide different degrees of protection.  Use our fabric guide charts to select the fabric that is best suited to your needs.

We have over 50,000 listings in our computerized pattern library and add new patterns every week.  Your dealer or retailer can check our database and if the pattern is not currently listed, or if the pattern is special, we'll provide a dimension sheet which is easy to complete (our most popular dimension sheets can be downloaded from this web-site).  The measurements you provide will be input in a CAD system that creates the custom pattern for your application.  We can accommodate hood scoops, roll bars, grille guards, winches, you name it, we'll custom make the pattern to fit any vehicle.  Remember, if it has wheels, Covercraft can cover it!

Custom Patterned Indoor Covers
